Northern Territory Education and Care Award
23 Nov 2019
We were thrilled to win this Award which recognises our innovative and creative approach to programming Fun Bus activities and experiences. We have a strong focus on rich and meaningful pretend play spaces that encourage children to use their imagination and problem solve, develop social skills and build resourcefulness and persistence.
Inspiration for the props and play scenes comes from the children's interests and ideas and feedback from family and community to be responsive and respectful to cultural and place-based learning. Use of recycled and repurposed items has modelled for parents that creative and engaging play does not have to be expensive and can be resourced through everyday items.
Smile-A-Mile staff support families to understand the importance of free, unstructured play in their child's development. This has included respectful modelling and support for parents to engage in different and positive ways with their children.
Thanks to the organisers of the Awards, Child Australia and Early Childhood Australia NT and special thanks to the sponsor of our category, Goodstart Early Learning for $3000 to use towards quality improvements and professional development.
