Ideas for Play at Home #1
18 Mar 2020
Playdough is one the easiest things you can make at home for your child's play. Playdough allows children to explore and experiment through squishing, rolling and manipulating - all great ways to build finger and hand muscles and flexibility. Playdough lets you get creative and use you imagination. There is no right or wrong way to play with playdough.
Why not try making playdough in different colours or with different flavoured essence from the bakery section of your grocery store. You could make lemon coloured playdough and let your child mix in lemon essence for an added experience.
We have used wholemeal flour instead of plain flour with no colouring added for this "pretend damper" playdough in our role play camping adventure. Just add some cooking utensils.
Other ideas for playdough play - encourage children to look for sticks, leaves, bark, shells and what ever else they can find outside to make interesting decorations and sculptures. Practice cutting with blunt scissors, lots of fun to roll sausages then cut into pieces.
2 cups plain flour
4 tablespoons cream of tarter
1 cup salt
2 tablespoons cooking oil
2 cups boiling water (Take care if making with children near by. Warm water can be used if making with children but the playdough won't last as long)
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl
Mix until all combined
